Delhi archdiocese appeals for protection of minorities

The archdiocese's appeal comes after a catholic school in Jalpaiguri district received threat letters demanding its shutdown.

New Delhi:  Delhi archdiocese has appealed to the government to protect minorities as a school in West Bengal got threat letters in the continuing attack on Christian institutions and churches across the country.

"We appeal to the civil society and to the government, the minorities may be protected and proper law and order be maintained in every part of this country," said archdiocesan spokesperson Father Savarimuthu Sankar.

He said there "is a feeling of doubt but we also have full faith in the country and the government of every state. We just hope that such incidents are not repeated,"

The archdiocese's appeals come after St Capitonia Girl's High School under in Champaguri area of Jalpaiguri district received threat letters demanding its shutdown.

The Police have registered a complaint in the case and deployed forces inside the premises of the school.

The school officials had complained to police on the basis of letters. The incident is the latest in a series of attacks against Christian institutions across the country.
