ஐக்கிய அமெரிக்காவின் முக்கிய உளவு நிறுவனத்தின் (CIA) தலைவர் வில்லியம் பர்ன்ஸ், அவரது எகிப்திய எதிரிணையினர் மற்றும் கத்தார் பிரதமருக்கு இடையே கெய்ரோவில் கலந்துரையாடல் நிகழ்விருப்பதாக செய்திகள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன.

இதுகுறித்து இலண்டனில் உள்ள இஸ்ரேலியத் தூதரகத்தின் செய்தித் தொடர்பாளர் Orly Goldschmidt கூறுகையில், இராணுவம் பொதுமக்களைக் குறிவைத்துத் தாக்கவில்லை என்றும், நாங்கள் பொதுமக்களைக் காயப்படுத்த விரும்பவில்லை, பாலஸ்தீன மக்களுடன் நாங்கள் ஒருபோதும் போரில் ஈடுபட்டதில்லை என்றும் பிபிசி வானொலிக்கு வழங்கிய நேர்காணல் ஒன்றில் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

Immediately after the massacre perpetrated by Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023, against peaceful Israeli families, Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin described it as “inhuman.” He emphasized the priority of freeing hostages and also spoke about Israel's right to defence while indicating the necessary parameter of proportionality.
Dialoguing with journalists on Tuesday, February 13, at the end of an event with Italian authorities, Parolin used unequivocal words about what is happening in Gaza. He repeated the "clear and unequivocal condemnation of all forms of anti-Semitism"; at the same time, he reiterated the "request that Israel's right to defence, which has been invoked to justify this operation, be proportional, and certainly with 30 thousand deaths, it is not." The cardinal added, "I believe we are all outraged by what is happening, by this carnage, but we must have the courage to move forward and not lose hope." His invitation is not to succumb to despair, to the alleged inevitability of a spiral of violence that can never bring peace but risks generating new hatred.
In an interview by the Italian newspaper “Il Fatto Quotidiano”, the writer and poet Edith Bruck - who, in the spring of 1944, at the age of 13, was captured in the Hungarian ghetto of Sátoraljaújhely and deported to Auschwitz - expressed similar positions. She directed severe criticism towards the current Israeli Prime Minister, stating that "he has harmed the Jews of the diaspora because he has revived anti-Semitism, which has never disappeared and has now increased." Bruck also expressed her belief that terrorists will never be eliminated with this policy.
The words of both the cardinal and the Jewish poet stem from a realistic view of the ongoing tragedy. The Holy See is always on the side of the victims. Thus, it was for the Israelis massacred at home in the kibbutz as they were about to celebrate the feast of Simchat Torah and for the hostages torn from their families, as it is for the innocent civilians - one-third of whom are children - killed by bombings in Gaza. No one can define what is happening in the Strip as "collateral damage" in the fight against terrorism. The right to defence, Israel's right to bring the perpetrators of the October massacre to justice, cannot justify this carnage.
During the Angelus on December 17, after the killing of two Christian women who had sought refuge in the Gaza parish, Pope Francis said, "Unarmed civilians are subjected to bombings and gunfire... Some say, 'It's terrorism, it's war.' Yes, it's war, it's terrorism. That's why Scripture states, 'God brings wars to an end... He breaks the bow and splinters the spear' (cf. Ps 46:9). Let us pray to the Lord for peace." At the beginning of Lent, as the macabre toll of innocent victims increases, this call becomes even more urgent, to call for the weapons to be silenced before it is too late for our world on the brink of the abyss.

It was Guglielmo Marconi, the inventor of the radio, who announced the historic event: "For about twenty centuries, the Roman Pontiff has made the word of his divine teaching heard in the world, but this is the first time that his living voice can be perceived simultaneously over the entire surface of the Earth."
The establishment of Vatican Radio has undoubtedly represented a significant moment in the history of media, having been founded in 1931. Its impact has been reflected not only in the dissemination of the Pope's voice and the Catholic Church but also in the broader context of global communication.
The establishment of World Radio Day by UNESCO, with its date coinciding with the anniversary of Vatican Radio, underscores the importance and impact of this medium of communication globally.

“The Church’s effort to cultivate understanding where there was once rivalry, friendship, where there was once animosity, and empathy where there was once contempt, has transformed our communities and left an everlasting imprint on our histories. We find in Your Holiness’ letter an affirmation of this commitment, evermore significant at this time when instability threatens even relationships which have been cultivated for many decades”.
These words are the heart of a letter sent to Pope Francis by several Rabbis and Scholars of Jewish-Christian dialogue. The letter is co-signed by Rabbi Jehoshua Ahrens (Frankfurt/Bern), Rabbi Yitz Greenberg (Jerusalem/ New York), Rabbi David Meyer (Paris/Rome), Karma Ben Johanan (Jerusalem) and Malka Zeiger Simkovich (Chicago). The same group had written to the Holy Father to invoke closeness between Jews and Christians, following the massacre of 7 October and the surge in anti-semitism and anti-Judaism around the world.
On 2 February, Pope Francis sent a letter to his “Jewish brothers and sisters in Israel”, ensuring them of the Church’s solidarity with the Jewish people, and at the same time, calling for a swift reconciliation among all people of all ethnic backgrounds and religious confessions living in the Holy Land.
“We are living in a historic moment that necessitates persistence, hope, and courage”, the letter reads. “The transformative power of Nostra Aetate is an inspiration for us, demonstrating that brotherhood can be retrieved even in the most difficult of conflicts. We join our Catholic brothers and sisters in their trust that religions can be creative forces, imbued with the power to open paths which otherwise remain closed”.
Professor Karma Ben Johanan, who coordinated the group of signatories, explained that the Pope’s letter had been “an invitation to deepen the dialogue between our communities. Almost 60 years since Vatican Council II launched a new era in Jewish-Christian relations, she said, “Today we have to renew our relations through the tribulations of these sad times”. However, she added, despite current tensions, “we are convinced that our relations are solid enough to overcome them and to move forward, but there is still much work to be done”.
The letter ends by recalling the “pain of this land’s inhabitants, be they Jews, Christians, Muslims, and others, pains us all, and impacts our lives and our futures. The obligation to heal this fractured world, beginning here and now, penetrates our being, holding a mountain over us like a barrel”.

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளாகிய நம் அனைவரையும் இறைத்தந்தை தனது மகன்களாகவும், மகள்களாகவும் வரவேற்கும் விண்ணகத்தின் பார்வையை இழக்காமல், இச்சமுதாயத்தில் நமது வாழ்வையும், இப்புவியில் நமது உயிர்வாழ்வையும் ஆதரிக்கும் உண்மையான உலகளாவிய உடன்பிறந்த உறவை உருவாக்க நாம் அழைக்கப்படுகிறோம் என்று கூறியுள்ளார் திருத்தந்தை பிரான்சிஸ்.
இந்த ஆண்டு, "உடன்பிறந்த உறவு மற்றும் சமூக நட்பு" என்ற கருப்பொருளுடனும், "நீங்கள் யாவரும் சகோதரர், சகோதரிகள்" (காண்க. மத் 23:8) என்ற விருதுவாக்குடனும் பிரேசிலில் நடைபெறும் உடன்பிறந்த உறவுகுறித்த பொதுப்பரப்புரையின் 60-வது ஆண்டுவிழாவிற்கு அனுப்பியுள்ள செய்தியில் இவ்வாறு உரைத்துள்ளார் திருத்தந்தை பிரான்சிஸ்.
நோன்பு, தவம் மற்றும் இறைவேண்டலுடன் நாம் தவக்காலப் பயணத்தைத் தொடங்கியுள்ள இவ்வேளையில், பிரேசில் ஆயர்களின் தேசிய மாநாட்டின் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளுடன் இணைந்து இறைவனுக்கு நன்றிதெரிவிக்கும் இவ்விழாவில் நானும் கலந்துகொள்கின்றேன் என்று கூறியுள்ள திருத்தந்தை, நம்பிக்கை மற்றும் வாழ்க்கை, ஆன்மிகம் மற்றும் சகோதர அர்ப்பணிப்பு, கடவுளின் அன்பு மற்றும் அடுத்திருப்போரின் அன்பு யாவும் அனைவரையும் குறிப்பாக, மிகவும் பலவீனமானவர்களையும் தேவையில் உள்ளோரையும் ஒருங்கிணைக்கிறது என்று குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.

பொங்கல் கொண்டாட்டம் என்பது எப்போதும் ஒரு நாளில் முடிவு அடைவதில்லை. தை மாதத்தின் முதல் நாள் பொங்கல் விழாவாக கொண்டாடப்பட்டுவருகிறது. தை 2ஆம் தேதி மாட்டுப் பொங்கலாகவும், திருவள்ளுவர் தினமாகவும் கடைபிடிக்கப்பட்டுவருகிறது. திருக்குறள்கள் மூலம் வாழ்க்கையின் அனைத்து நெறிகளையும் கற்பித்துச் சென்ற திருவள்ளுவரை பெருமைப்படுத்தும் விதமாக ஆண்டுதோறும் திருவள்ளுவர் தினம் அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது.
திருவள்ளுவர் பிறந்த ஆண்டு கி.மு. 31 என்று முடிவெடுத்து அதனைக் கணக்கிட்டு திருவள்ளுவர் ஆண்டு கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. இப்போது நாம் 2055ஆம் திருவள்ளுவர் ஆண்டில் உள்ளோம். செந்நாப்போதர், தெய்வப்புலவர், நாயனார், முதற்பாவலர், நான்முகனார், மாதானுபங்கி, பெருநாவலர், பொய்யில்புலவர் என பல சிறப்புப் பெயர்களால் போற்றப்படும் திருவள்ளுவரை, அண்மைக்காலங்களில் சில குழுக்கள், தங்களுக்குரியவர் மட்டுமே என சொந்தம் கொண்டாட முயல்வதையும் கவலையுடன் காணகிறோம். ஒரு காலத்தில் இவரை கிறிஸ்தவர் என அடையாளம் காட்ட முயன்றனர் சிலர். இன்றோ, அவருக்கு காவி உடை அணிவித்தும், உத்ராட்சை மாலை போட்டும் புகைப்படம் வெளியிட்டு வருகிறார்கள். உலகப்பொதுமறையைத் தந்த இந்த சமூகப்புரட்சியாளரை ஒரு மதத்திற்கு மட்டும் உரியவர் என்றோ, ஓர் இனத்திற்கு மட்டுமே சொந்தமானவர் என்றோ கூறமுயல்வது, அறியாமையின் வெளிப்பாடு என்றுதான் சொல்லவேண்டும். சமணமும் பௌத்தமும் இருந்த காலத்தில் வாழ்ந்த வள்ளுவப் பெருந்தகை, கடவுள் நம்பிக்கை உடையவராகத்தான் இருந்தார், ஏனெனில் அவர் கடவுள் வாழ்த்தை எழுதியுள்ளார். திருக்குறளில் கடவுள் பற்றிய கருத்துக்கள் இருந்தாலும், எந்த தனிப்பட்ட கடவுளைப் பற்றியும் அவர் பேசவில்லை. பல திருக்குறள்களில் பண்பு நலன்களை வைத்துத்தான் அவர் கருத்தை தெரிவிக்கிறாரே அன்றி எந்த தனிப்பட்ட கடவுளைப் பற்றியும் அவர் பேசவில்லை. அதில் அவரின் பொதுமை பண்பை நாம் காணலாம்.
ஆதிகாலத்தில் இருந்தே கடவுள் நம்பிக்கை இருந்து வருகிறது. மனிதன் எப்போது இயற்கைக்கு பயந்தானோ அப்போது இருந்தே கடவுள் நம்பிக்கை இருந்து வருகிறது என்பதை வரலாற்றில் நாம் காண்கிறோம். இறை நம்பிக்கை இருப்பதாக திருவள்ளுவர் நம்பினாரே அன்றி, அவர் ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட சமயத்தை சார்ந்தவர் என்று எப்போதும் அவர் நினைக்கவில்லை. அவரின் குறள்கள் எல்லாம் சமுதாயப் புரட்சிக்குத்தான் வித்திட்டன என்பதை எவராலும் மறுக்கமுடியாது. கடவுளைவிட மனிதனுக்குத்தான் அவர் முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுத்தார் என்பதை திருக்குறள் ஆய்வாளர்கள் ஒத்துக்கொள்கின்றனர்.
கி.மு. ஏழாம் நூற்றாண்டில் தோன்றிய தொல்காப்பியர் பிறமொழித் தாக்குதலால் தமிழ் அழிந்து போவதைத் தடுத்து நிறுத்தினார் என்றால், திருவள்ளுவர் அயல் மக்கள் செல்வாக்கால் தமிழ்ப் பண்பாடு அழிந்து போவதைத் தடுத்து நிறுத்தினார் என்றுதான் கூறவேண்டும்.
திருக்குறளில் இறை என்ற சொல் 10 குறள்பாக்களில் இடம் பெற்றுள்ளது. இறைவன் என்ற சொல் 3 குறள்பாக்களில் இடம் பெற்றுள்ளது. ஆனால் குறள் 5 மற்றும் 10 ஆகிய இரண்டு குறள்பாக்களைத் தவி மற்றபிற குறள்களில் எல்லாம் இறை என்பது மன்னனைக் குறிக்கும் சொல்லாகவே அமைந்துள்ளது.
கடவுள் வாழ்த்து அதிகாரத்தின் குறள்பாக்களில், பகவன், வாலறிவன், மலர்மிசை ஏகினான், வேண்டுதல் வேண்டாமை இலான், இருள் சேர் இருவினையும் சேரா இறைவன், பொறிவாயில் ஐந்தவித்தான், தனக்குவமை இல்லாதான், அறவாழி அந்தணன், எண் குணத்தான், என பண்புகளைக் குறிப்பிட்டு அப்பண்பிற்கு உரியவராகக் கடவுளை திருவள்ளுவர் வாழ்த்துவதைக் காண்கிறோம்.
இறைவன் என்ற சொல்லை, கடவுளையும், அரசனையும், தலைவனையும் குறிப்பிட வள்ளுவர் உபயோகப்படுத்தி இருக்கிறார். 7 குறள்பாக்களில் 3 குறட்பாக்களில் உள்ள இறைவன் என்ற சொல் கடவுளையும், அடுத்து 3 குறள்பாக்களில் உள்ள இறைவன் என்ற சொல் அரசனையும், ஒரு குறள்பாவின் இறைவன் என்ற சொல், தலைவனையும் குறிப்பிடுகின்றன.
திருக்குறளில் முதல் அதிகாரமான 'கடவுள் வாழ்த்து' என்பதில், கடவுள் என்ற சொல், தலைப்பில் மட்டுமே இருக்க, திருக்குறளில் வேறு எங்கும் கையாளப்படவில்லை என்பது பலருக்கு வியப்பான ஒன்றுதான். ஏனெனில், கடவுள் என்ற சொல் முழுமையான தமிழ்ச் சொல். அதுபோல், தமிழ் என்ற சொல்லும் திருக்குறளில் இல்லை.
'அ என்ற எழுத்துத் தான் முதல் எழுத்து. அது போல ஆதிபகவன் தான் உலகத்திற்கு முதல்வன்' என்று கடவுளைத் தொழுது, தன் திருக்குறளை ஆரம்பிக்கிறார் வள்ளுவப் பெருந்தகை.
திருக்குறள், மாந்தர்தம் அகவாழ்வில் சுமுகமாகக் கூடி வாழவும், புற வாழ்வில் இன்பமுடனும் இசைவுடனும் நலமுடனும் வாழவும் தேவையான அடிப்படைப் பண்புகளை விளக்குகிறது. ஆலும் வேலும் பல்லுக்குறுதி என்றால், நாலும் இரண்டும் சொல்லுக்குறதி என்று கூறி நாலடியாரையும், திருக்குறளின் அருமையையும் பறைசாற்றுவதை நாம் அறிவோம். இன, மொழி, பாலின பேதங்களின்றி காலம் கடந்தும் பொருந்துவது போல் கூறி உள்ளதால் திருக்குறள் "உலகப் பொது மறை" என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. உலகப் பொதுமறை எனப் போற்றப்படும் திருக்குறள், அற நூலாக தோன்றினாலும் இதில் சமூக சிந்தனை, சமூக தேடல், விழிப்புணர்வு, வாழ்வியல் சிந்தனை என பல்வேறு நிலைகளை உடையது. அவ்வகையில் மனிதநேயக் கருத்துக்களும் நிறைந்து வழிகின்ற ஊற்றாகத் திகழ்கிறது.
சமுதாயம் விழிப்புப் பெறவும், மக்களிடையே மறுமலர்ச்சிக்கான விழிப்புணர்வை ஊட்டவும் கருத்தக்களை வழங்கிய சிந்தனைகளில் வள்ளுவர் முன்னணியில் நிற்கின்றார். வள்ளுவரின் பார்வை முழுமையான மானுட வாழ்வியல் பார்வையாகவே தடம் பதித்துள்ளது. மக்கள் கல்வியறிவு அற்றவர்களாக இருந்த போது அவர்களிடம் பரப்பப்பட்டு வந்த மதச் சடங்குகளும் மூடப்பழக்கங்களையும் சீர்திருத்த விழைந்தார் பெரியார். அதன் தொடர்ச்சியாக, மொழியிலும், இலக்கியங்களிலும் மறைந்தும், மறையாமலும் வழங்கிவந்த கருத்துகளையும் களைந்து புதிய புதிய சிந்தனைகளுக்கு வழிகோலிய பெரியார், உலக இலக்கியங்களில் நீதி வழங்கியதில் சிறந்த நூல் திருக்குறள் ஒன்றுதான் என்பதை தமது கருத்தாக வெளிப்படுத்தி இருக்கிறார். நம் மக்களின் நல்வாழ்வுக்குத் தேவையான உயர்ந்த நெறிகளையும் மனிதனிடம் மனிதன் நடந்து கொள்ளும் முறையையும் வழி வகுக்கக் குறளுக்கு மேலான ஒரு நீதி நூல் வேறு கிடையாது என்பது பெரியாரின் கருத்து. தமிழ் சமுதாயத்தில் மண்டிக் கிடந்த மூட நம்பிக்கைகளை அகற்றி சாதி, மதம் போன்ற கூறுகள் இல்லாத சமத்தவ சமுதாயத்தை உருவாக்க நினைத்த பெரியாருக்கு, அவருடைய கருத்துகளை அரண் செய்வது போலவும், அவரது கொள்கைகளுக்கு வலுவூட்டுவதாகவும் அமைந்துள்ள பல்வேறு கருத்துகளை தனக்கேவுரிய ஆய்வாகப் பெரியார் திருக்குறளை அணுகி இருக்கிறார் என்று கூறலாம்.
இதற்கு பலம் சேர்ப்பதாக, வள்ளுவரின்,
பிறப்பொக்கும் எல்லா உயிர்க்கும் சிறப்பொக்கும்
செய்தொழில் வேற்றுமையான், என்பதை ஓர் உதாரணமாகக் கூறலாம்.
இதேபோல், மனிதன் பிற மனிதனிடத்தில் பிற உயிர்களிடத்தும் காட்டும் நேயமே, மனிதநேயம் ஆகும். பழங்காலத்தில் மனிதநேயம் என்பது அருளுடைமை என்ற சொல்லால் அழைக்கப்பட்டது. பிறர் ஒருவருக்கு இடர் ஏற்பட்டிருந்தும், அது தமக்கு ஏற்பட்ட துன்பம் போல் கருதி பிறருக்கு உதவுமாறு செய்யும் ஈகைக் குணமே, அருளுடைமை. ஓர் உயிர் துன்பப்படும் போது, அவர் உயிர் பால் கசியும் ஈரமுடைமையை அருளுடைமை எனலாம். ஒரு மதம் கூறிய சில கருத்துக்களை பிற மதங்கள் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள மறுத்தாலும், அனைத்து மதங்களும் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளக்கூடிய கருத்துக்களில் ஒன்றுதான் அருளுடைமை என்னும் மனிதநேயம். "உன் உயிரைப் போல் பிற உயிரையும் நேசி" என்ற மனிதநேயக் கருத்தை அனைத்து சமயங்களும் கூறுகின்றன. இதனையே வள்ளுவர்,
"நல்லா ட்டால் நாடி அருளாள்க பல்லாற்றால்
தேரினும் அஃதே துணை" என உரைக்கிறார். நல்ல வழியால் ஆராய்ந்து அருளுடையவர்களாக விளங்க வேண்டும்; பலவழிகளால் ஆராய்ந்து கண்டாலும் அருளே வாழ்க்கைக்குத் துணையாக இருக்கும், என இதற்கு விளக்கமளிக்கிறார் மு. வரதராசனார்.
இதையே மீண்டும் வள்ளுவர்,
மண்ணோ டியைந்த மரத்தனையர் கண்ணோ
டியைந்துகண் ணோடா தவர், என்கிறார்.
ஒருவர்க்குக் கண் இருந்தும்கூட அந்தக் கண்ணுக்குரிய அன்பும் இரக்கமும் இல்லாவிட்டால் அவர் மரத்துக்கு ஒப்பானவரே ஆவார் என்பது இதன் பொருள்.
இதையும் கொஞ்சம் தாண்டிச் சென்று,
அன்பிலார் எல்லாம் தமக்குரியர் அன்புடையார்
என்பும் உரியர் பிறர்க்கு.
அதாவது, அன்பில்லாதவர் எல்லாப் பொருளும் தமக்கு மட்டும் உரியது என எண்ணுவர், அன்பு உடையவரோ தம் உடல், பொருள், ஆவி ஆகிய அனைத்தும் பிறருக்கென எண்ணிடுவர் என்பதையும்,
உள்ளத்தால் உள்ளலும் தீதே பிறன்பொருளைக்
கள்ளத்தால் கள்வேம் எனல்.
அதாவது, அடுத்தவர் பொருளைத் திருடி எடுத்துக் கொள்ளலாம் என்று உள்ளத்தில் எண்ணுவது கூடத் தீமையானது என்பதையும் வள்ளுவம் கூறியுள்ளதை நாம் அறிவோம்.
இதை தவறு என்று எந்த மதமாவது கூறுமா, அல்லது இதற்கு எதிரானக் கருத்துக்களை எந்த மதமாவது கூறியதுண்டா? ஆகவேதான் அழுத்திக் கூறுகிறோம், வள்ளுவர் கூறும் நெறிகள் அனைத்துச் சமயத்தவரும் ஏற்றுப் போற்றத் தக்கன. திருக்குறள் உலக மக்கள் அனைவருக்கும் பொதுவாய் நின்று நன்னெறி புகட்டும் அருமறையாக உள்ளது. “வள்ளுவன் தன்னை உலகிற்கு தந்து வான்புகழ் கொண்ட தமிழ்நாடு” என்ற வரிகளில், வள்ளுவனால் நாம் கண்ட பெருமையை உணர்கிறோம்.
உலகிற்கு இந்த தமிழர்தம் பெருமையை அறிமுகம் செய்தவர்கள் என்றுப் பார்த்தோமானால், திருக்குறளை முதன் முதலில் ஆங்கிலத்தில் மொழிபெயர்த்த ஜி.யு,போப், திருக்குறளை இலத்தீன் மொழியில் மொழி பெயர்த்த வீரமாமுனிவர், திருக்குறளுக்கு முதன் முதலில் உரை எழுதிய மணக்குடவர் ஆகியோரைக் குறிப்பிடலாம்.
இறுதியாக ஒன்றைச் சொல்லி இன்றைய நிகழ்ச்சியை நிறைவுச் செய்கிறோம். திருவள்ளுவரை எந்த மதத்திற்குள்ளோ, இனத்திற்குள்ளோ இழுத்து முடக்கிவிடாதீர்கள். அவர் எந்த மதத்தையும் சார்ந்தவரல்ல. தனியொருவனுக்கு உணவில்லையெனில் இஜ்ஜகத்தினை அழித்திடுவோம் என்று கூறிய பாரதியைப்போல் அல்லாமல்,
இரந்தும் உயிர் வாழ்தல் வேண்டி பரந்து
கெடுக உலக இயற்றியான்.
என்றவர் வள்ளுவர். அதாவது, ஒருவன் மற்றவனை இரந்து பிச்சை எடுத்துத்தான் உயிர் வாழ வேண்டும் என்ற நிலை வருமாயின் இந்த உலகம் மட்டுமல்ல அதற்கெல்லாம் அடிப்படையாகக் கருதப்படும் கடவுள்தான் முதலில் அழிக்கப்பட வேண்டியவனாவான் என்ற வள்ளுவரின் கூற்று சிந்திக்கத் தக்கது.
ஆகவே அன்புள்ளங்களே, திருவள்ளுவரை ஒரு மனித நேயச் சிந்தனையாளராக, சமுதாயப் புரட்சியாளராக வாழ்வில் எடுத்துக்கொண்டு அவர் வழி நடப்போம்.

Pope to IFAD: Our food waste could feed all the hungry

Pope Francis sent a message Wednesday to participants in the 47th session of the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
He expressed his gratitude for the commitment, time, and energy devoted to “striving for a better world where no one's dignity is violated and where fraternity becomes a reality, a source of joy and hope for all.”
The Holy Father noted that our world today faces a heartbreaking dichotomy related to food.
“On the one hand, millions of people are plagued by hunger, while on the other hand, great insensitivity is seen in the waste of food,” he said.
This foodwaste, the Pope noted, each year produces masses of greenhouse gases, while proper rationing would be enough to feed all the hungry.
“We are pushing the world to dangerous limits," warned the Pope, describing the change in the climate, the plundering of resources, and the countless conflicts threatening the livelihood of millions of people.
Pope Francis noted that in the face of crises, whatever they may be, it is always rural communities that suffer first.”
"Indigenous peoples are also victims of hardship, deprivation and abuse”, he continued, stressing that “their knowledge of natural resource management and their connection to the environment can help conserve biodiversity.”
Pope Francis then spoke of another neglected group of people: women, whom he said are the mainstay of more than half of the food insecure households in rural areas, where many young people lack training, resources, and opportunities.
“This reality moves us to confront existing problems, in particular hunger and poverty, not by settling for abstract strategies or unattainable commitments, but by cultivating the hope that springs from collective action,” said the Pope, before inviting all those present to “work together to build a more inclusive agricultural and food system.”
Finally, Pope Francis prayed that a spirit of loyal cooperation and service “may guide your deliberations so that the causes of exclusion, poverty, and mismanagement of resources, as well as the effects of climate crises, can be eliminated.”

Indian farmers teargassed as they march on Delhi

Riding tractors and trucks, the protesting farmers are demanding greater support, guaranteed prices for their produce and forgiveness for loans, as well as a number of other concessions.
The capital – New Delhi – meanwhile, is ringed by razor wire, cement blocks and fencing on three sides to keep protests at bay, as authorities on Tuesday detained a number of farmers and suspended internet services in some districts of neighbouring Haryana state.
They are determined to control the demonstrations to avoid a repeat of the 2021 protests, in which dozens died and tens of thousands of farmers camped outside the capital for over a year, enduring a harsh winter and a devastating COVID-19 surge.
Those protests ended only after ministers agreed to repeal controversial agriculture laws, but just over two years later, the farmers say other key demands have not been met.
Dialogue
“We do not want to break any barricades. We want resolution of our issues through dialogue.” said the leader of one of the farmer groups.
Today’s confrontation comes after a breakdown in negotiations between union leaders and government ministers on Monday.
Apart from the socio-economic significance of the protests, with national elections on the horizon, politics plays a huge part in this year’s showdown due to the sheer number of farmers in India.
Analysts say the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and his Bharatiya Janata Party – the BJP - who is seeking a third consecutive term in power in general elections this year will be keen not to alienate them.
According to government figures, two-thirds of India’s 1.4 billion people draw their livelihood from agriculture, accounting for nearly a fifth of the country’s GDP. (Source various news agencies)
