Vatican and SSPX resume discussions on doctrinal topics

Meetings described as 'cordial'.

Vatican City:  Officials of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith met with representatives of the Society of St. Pius X on Tuesday for two hours at the Vatican to discuss matters of Church teaching.

“During the meeting, various problems of a doctrinal and canonical nature were examined, and it was decided to proceed gradually and over a reasonable period of time in order to overcome difficulties and with a view to the envisioned full reconciliation,” the Holy See press office stated Tuesday.

The meeting was the first between the congregations’ prefect Cardinal Gerhard Mueller and Bishop Bernard Fellay since the cardinal had been appointed prefect. The latter is secretary of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei.

A press release of the Society of St. Pius X stated: “It was decided to continue the discussions in order to clarify the points of contention that remain.”??
