Nuns die in accident in Haryana

Sources said that the nuns, who belonged to Kerala, will be taken to Hoshiarpur in Punjab for burial.

 

New Delhi:  Two Catholic nuns died today when the vehicle they were traveling collided with a lorry near Rohtak district in Haryana.

The nuns, staff of the Christ Raja Convent school in Jind district, were traveling to Delhi when the accident took place Wednesday morning in Brar Khera village in Julana near Rohtak.

The accident happened when a tipper lorry, which was coming from the opposite direction, collided with a bike and then lost control and hit the vehicle the nuns were travelling, said Sandeep Kumar, Station House Officer of Julana.

The nuns, identified as Mabel (60) and Lavina (35), died on the spot while the person who was driving the bike sustained to injuries in the hospital, Kumar said.

The polcie officer said that a complaint has been registered against the driver and helper of the lorry, who are absconding.

The body of the nuns will be handed over to the school management after postmortem, he added.

Sources said that the nuns, who belonged to Kerala, will be taken for burial to Hoshiarpur in Punjab, where their province is located.
