New archbishop for Tellicherry

New appointment follows the retirement of Archbishop George Valiyamattam as the head of Tellicherry.

 

New Delhi:  Pope Francis has appointed Bishop George Njaralakatt, currently of Mandya diocese, as the new archbishop of Tellicherry in Kerala.

The announcement of the new archbishop was made in the Vatican, Syro-Malbar head office in Kakanad and in the archdiocese at the same time Saturday afternoon.

Bishop Njaralakatt's new appointment follows the retirement of Archbishop George Valiyamattam as the head of Tellicherry.

Bishop Njaralakatt was appointed the head of Mandya diocese as its first bishop in April 2010.

The new bishop's family hails from Thodupuzha and he was bon June 23, 1946 in the Nadavayal parish in the eparchy of the Mananthavady.

After ordained priest in 1971, he has worked for Mananthavady, Tellicheryy and Bhadavati diocese

Since 2006 he was serving Bhadravathi as its Protosyncellus until his appointment as the Bishop of Mandya. He holds a licentiate in Catechetics.
