Pastor harassed, accused of converting villagers

Rajpur police station in-charge Asharam Varma said the charge of conversion was found to be false.

Bhopal:  Police rescued and released a Pentecostal pastor after right-wing Hindu activists surrounded a prayer meeting and shouted slogans against conversion near Badwa Falia in Barwani district of Madhya Pradesh.

Pastor Lal Singh was leading the prayers at the house of one Idaram. Both of them were brought to the Julwania police Thursday after the right-wing group accused them of converting locals by inducement, Indian Express reported.

“The VHP and Bajrang Dal workers were agitated and would have harmed the pastor had I released him,’’ Head Constable Rameshwar Pande said.

As the protestors later surrounded the police station, Pande later took the duo in a police vehicle to the Rajpur police station, about 12 km away.

Rajpur police station in-charge Asharam Varma said the charge of conversion was found to be false and the duo was allowed to go. He said no complaint was lodged against anybody.
