Kerala governments did nothing for Latin Catholics: Archbishop

It is always better to bank upon one’s own resourcefulness than wait for the government to do something, he said.

Thiruvananthapuram:  Archbishop Soosai Pakiam of Trivandrum said on Sunday that he is dismayed by the lack of cooperation from various governments towards working for the welfare his Latin Catholic community in the state.

‘’It is always better to bank upon one’s own resourcefulness than wait for the government to do something,’’ said Soosai Pakiam. He was addressing the gathering Latin Catholics at Bishop Pereira Hall to mark ‘Samudaya Dinam (community day) 2014’ on Sunday.

‘’There are numerous instances of injustice done to the community by the governments. No political party till this day has done anything substantial for the welfare of the Latin Catholic community apart from giving false promises prior to various elections,’’ he said.

Director of Almaya Commission under Kerala Region Latin Catholic Council (KRLCC) Archanjelo said that proper knowledge about the history of the church was essential for the community so that no other community could later stake claim to this heritage.

He was referring to the establishment of schools on the church premises which according to him was a tradition started by the Latin Catholic Church in the nineteenth century.
