Canon Law Society meets in Kerala

The opening session was presided over by Bishop Mar Joseph Kallarangatt of Pala.

 

Kottayam:  KOCHI: Some 200 delegates from all across India are participating in the annual conference of the Canon Law Society of India that began in Pala, Kerala, on Monday.

Kerala Finance Minister K M Mani opened the five-day meet, scheduled to conclude on Oct. 24.

The sessions will be led by experts in canon law from various parts of the country.

The opening session was presided over by Bishop Mar Joseph Kallarangatt of Pala. National Minority Commission member Cyriac Thomas and Archbishop of Thrissur Mar Andrews Thazhath were also present for the opening.

Founded in Mumbai in 1985, for conducting studies and holding discussions on legal administration in the Church, the Canon Law Society of India gives membership to canon law experts in the three Catholic Rites in India - Latin, Syro-Malabar, and Syro- Malankara.

Oswald Cardinal Gracias of Mumbai and Rayappan Arulselvan of the St Peter Pontifical Institute, Bangalore, are patron and president of the Society, respectively.
