35 injured in jallikattu at church festival

The ‘jallikattu’ was organized after a gap of four years under the strict supervision of district officials.

 

Ariyalur:  Thirty-five bull tamers were injured at a jallikattu, a Tamil variety of bullfight, organized as part of the festival at St. Antony’s Church at Kokkudi, near Tirumanur, on Sunday.

Four of the injured were referred to the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital.

About 400 bulls from different parts of the central districts and 200 tamers participated in it. Thirty-one persons who suffered minor injuries were treated at the venue.

The ‘jallikattu’ was organized after a gap of four years under the strict supervision of district officials.

The bulls and tamers were subject to medical screening before the event.

Collector E. Saravanavel Raj and Superintendent of Police Zia-ul-Haq monitored the event.
