The Saint from Narbonne, modern day France, is a role model for Christians all over the world, as he was ready to sacrifice everything including his life for Christ.
The Sacred Relic was brought to Sri Lanka by Father Neville Joe Perera on January 12 and was handed over to Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith at the Bandaranayake Airport.
After a prayer service at the airport, the sacred relic was taken in procession along the main road to St. Sebastian's Shrine in Kandana. Thousands of faithful waited to have a glimpse of the relic with flowers and flags in their hands. The procession reached Kandana after stops at Liyanagemulla, Seeduwa, Dadugama junction, Dehiyagatha, Tudella, Jaela, Weligampitiya and Rilaulla.
A massive crowd at Kandana welcomed the sacred relic and it was taken to the shrine in a grand procession. Sri Lankan Police provided ceremonial mounted escort with the horses leading the procession and the Sri Lanka Air Force sprinkled flowers several times with a helicopter which flew above the procession upto the shrine. Several school and college bands led the colourful procession.
Cardinal Ranjith presided over a Eucharistic celebration later.
