Christian medical college gets national stamp of quality

CMC has been adjudged as top among Asia’s 100 best and fastest growing private educational institutions.

Vellore:  The century old Christian Medical College hospital in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, has become the first among the oldest and largest hospitals in the country to receive a certificate of accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH).

The CMC hospital’s director Dr Sunil Chandy and medical superintendent Dr C E Eapen said a team of officials from NABH would formally hand over the certificate to the hospital on February 7.

The citation received by the hospital said the CMCH has been assessed and found to comply with norms set by NABH to meet quality standards.

The NABH, a constituent of the Quality Council of India, has designed a comprehensive healthcare standard for hospitals and healthcare providers, with over 600 stringent objective elements that the hospital must achieve in order to get the accreditation.

“We are happy that the three-year long process of assessment for accreditation has ended well. All the systems of the hospitals, functioning of over 40 departments, safety norms and patient management had been assessed by the NABH and subjected to two rounds of revaluation before the accreditation was awarded.” Dr Chandy said, adding that the certification would be valid for the next three years during which the NABH would monitor all the parameters.

The Christian Medical College has also received the award for ‘Asia’s Best Private Education institution’ (in the medical/pharma category) from the World Consulting and Research Corporation recently. The award was received by Dr Chandy at a function at Delhi.

“The education excellence award is an outcome of a survey conducted by WCRC Leaders (Asia) (a Business and General interest magazine covering South East Asia, South Asia and GCC regions), evaluated and validated by KPMG in India.

CMC has been adjudged as top among Asia’s 100 best and fastest growing private educational institutions. CMC is the only institution in India to have received the award this year, he said.
