Church burnt down in Chhattisgarh

Hindu fundamentalists alleged forced conversions by Christians.

Kondagaon:  Hindu extremist groups allegedly burnt down a small church in Kondagaon district of Chhattisgarh, accusing Christians of forced conversions.

The incident was brought to limelight by the Evangelical Fellowship of India, a group of several evangelical Christian communities.

The building was set on fire on the night of April 2 and the local faithful could not do anything to put out the flames, the Agenzia Fides reported.

The Christians in Chhote Salna village had a year ago built the chapel with wood and straw.

The land for the construction of the church was donated by a local and the chapel was a place of worship for different families scattered in the district.

The day after the fire incident, Christians were publicly insulted and threatened by Hindu fundamentalists belonging to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

The attackers accused the Christians of converting people through fraud and seduction.

A police complaint was filed in this regard.

Earlier, Fides sources say that a group of Hind u fundamentalists, along with some police officers, demolished a church, claiming it was built illegally in Jagdalpur district on March 13.
