Catholic priest awarded for Konkani language

Catholic priest awarded for Konkani language

The award will be conferred on the priest on April 27.

 

Mangalore:  Former editor of a Konkani publication, Fr Mark Valder has been chosen for lifetime award for his contribution to Konkani language.

Goa Konkani Academy selected him for its ‘Madhav Shanbhag Konkani Language Lifetime Achievement Award’ for the year 2013.

A release from the Academy said that the award is being given annually to people from outside Goa with outstanding service to the language and culture to their credit.

The award will be conferred on the priest, whose service to Konkani language and culture has been precious and illustrious, at a function being held at Vishwa Konkani Kendra, Shaktinagar on April 27.

The priest has been residing at the Congregation of the Helpers of Mount Rosary convent, Moodbidri, Alangar after getting retired as the parish priest of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Church, Gantalkatte.
