Bhopal archbishop receives human rights award

He was nominated by the council for his outstanding contribution for peace, harmony, protecting human rights and service to humanity.




 

New Delhi:  Archbishop Leo Cornelio of Bhopal received the prestigious International Human Rights Award for the year 2015 for his contribution for peace, harmony, protecting human rights and service to humanity.

The prelate received the award titled Ambassador of Peace in New Delhi. The event was organized by All India Council of Human Rights, Liberties and Social Justice.

“The Award has humbled me to serve humanity more diligently. It is an award for the people of Madhya Pradesh for their unity to promote a violent free society,” the prelate said.

A press release issued by the council said Archbishop Cornelia is a renowned philanthropist, humanitarian, compassionate, thoughtful and a person respected far and wide.

His Humility to accept this prestigious award on the occasion of Human Rights will continue to add dignity and encourage people to make strides in the direction of serving humanity, it noted.

Governors of various states, members of Human Rights Commission, UN diplomats, ministers, Members of Parliament were among those who attended the event.

Fr. Maria Stephen, the spokesperson for the Madhya Pradesh region said it is an honor for the entire people of the state and hoped that it would encourage all the sections of the society to build a better world where human rights and dignity will prevail.
