Barasat:  Vandals have attacked a church in Digberia area under Madhyampgram police station of West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district on Wednesday.

District additional superintendent of police Bhaskar Mukherjee said unknown people broke the window panes of the Believers Church in the area Ednesday and escaped.

He also said that a massive search operation is underway to nab them.

It should be noted that attacks on Churches are on the rise in recent time. Churches in the country's capital, Delhi, have been targeted in the last few months.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had in the past strongly condemned such incidents. He had also assured the Christian community that the government would 'act strongly' without tolerance for fanaticism of any kind.

Christians are minority in India. They represent just 2 per cent of India's total population of 1.2 billion.
