Inquest into Mangalore nurse’s death to begin in May

The nurse died following a hoax call by two Australian RJs.

London:  The inquest into the death of an Indian Catholic nurse, who allegedly committed suicide following a hoax call, would begin on May 2.

In a statement read by MP Keith Vaz on behalf of the nurse’s family in the Westminster Coroner’s Court, he said, “Today marks the beginning of the end as far the legal process is concerned but it does not take away the terrible grief the family is still suffering.”

The next few weeks are going to be very difficult for the family until May 2 when, of course, the inquest will begin, he added.

“These have been dreadful, dreadful weeks and months for the family. “They will never ever come to terms with the death of Jacintha, who they loved. so much, but they hope this process will begin the healing process,” he added.

Jacintha Saldanha’s husband Benedict Barboza and the couple’s children Lisha and Junal were also present in the court.

Saldanha, a nurse at King Edward VII Hospital, was found dead by colleagues after answering a hoax call from two Australian RJs while the Duchess of Cambridge was in the hospital’s care in December last year.

Saldanha left three notes before she died. Two were in the room where she was found hanging, while a third was found among her personal possessions, police said.
