Church needs to move toward renewal and change: CCI

The CCI meeting also elected new office bearers.

 

Varanasi:  The Catholic Council of India (CCI) today concluded its 12th general body meeting deciding to travel further in the path of renewal and change, in the light of Second Vatican Council.

“As the example of Pope Francis reminds us, we have to go further in the path of service and solidarity with the poor,” said a statement issued by the CCI.

A deep meaningful dialogue with the world religions, inculturation and empowerment of the missions of laity ought to be the objectives of the church, it said.

The meeting also elected new office bearers.

Lawrence Francis Vincent (Dharmapuri) and Mary Regina (Trichur) has been elected as the vice presidents.

Derick Jaxon (Lucknow), Janak Basumatary (Assam), Binu John (Ernakulam), Ann Samuel (Delhi), Leena Jose (Changanassery) Clara Fernanndes (Belgaum), Fr Raju Alex (Hyderabad), Fr Jerome IMS (Varanasi) are the new executive committee members.

Archbishop Albert D’Souza of Agra and CCI secretary Fr. Paul Pulikkan led the discussions on the final day.
