Indian Social Institute to conclude golden jubilee celebrations

The institute has over 5,000 social activists.

Bangalore:  Indian Social Institute (ISI) is organizing the valedictory celebrations of its Golden Jubilee later this week.

A national seminar on the theme “Breaking New Paths for Inclusive Development” will be organised on Dec. 5 and 6 in Bangalore.

A valedictory function on the evening of Dec. 6 will bring the curtains down on the golden jubilee celebrations.

The inaugural Function of the seminar will be presided over by Fr. Edward Muduvassery, provincial of Jesuits, South Asia and the keynote address would be delivered by Syeda Hameed, member of Planning Commission.

About twenty scholarly papers will be presented on the occasion on different topics, including development debate, re-visited; labour and workforce development; gender and development; human rights and development; civil society and development activism; ecological concerns and management of natural resources; children and development
About 100 academicians and activists from across the country will take part in the program.

One of the presentations would be for the Children on the theme: Mental impact – When Children do not express by Reddemma, a behavioural scientist and President of INSA-India.

A film ‘Kannadi’ will highlight the long-term impacts of children not expressing their experiences of abuse.

A report on the golden jubilee celebrations of the Institute will also be presented during the program.

Fr. Muduvassery will also release a souvenir on the occasion.

A documentary on Indian Social Institute directed by Gopal Menon will also be released.

The Indian Social Institute, Delhi (ISI-D) was established in 1951 as a response of the Society of Jesus to the dreams and needs of the newly Independent Indian nation.

In 1993, the training centre in Bangalore was registered as an independent NGO, engaged in three major activities- training, outreach, research and publication.

The thrust areas of the Institute are human rights, gender equity, livelihood issues, secularism and ecological issues

ISI has outreach units for the four southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
