Kalyani: A group of Brothers from the Missionaries of Charity congregation from India and Africa held a first ever communications workshop in West Bengal.
Twelve Brothers took part in the four-day program from April 29 at MC House of Prayer at Kalyani in the state.
“It is to help the Brothers to be effective in their communication skills, as well as spoken and written news reports from their different mission countries and communities…” said formation director Br. George Dev, who has worked in several countries of Africa, Europe and Latin America.
Starting with the basic principles of communications and news reporting, Salesian Fr. C M Paul guided the participants in preparing reports of news events from their communities.
In the course of the workshop, Fr Paul had a presentation entitled: Mother Teresa and the Media” in which he shared some interesting anecdotes from Mother’s life.
The participants were told how to use of media in the field of evangelization and mission.
“It is not the gadgets which communicate the message, but the person of the messenger communicates the message,” Fr. Paul explained.
MC Brothers even today do not have access to radio, television and computers.
However, for the communication course, the Brothers procured a neighbor’s television to screen some of the films on Mother Teresa showcased during the program.
