New Delhi: Father A. Joseph of Bellary diocese in Karnataka died instantly yesterday, when the vehicle he traveled hit a tree after the driver lost control of it.
Two nuns of the Sisters of Charity congregation, who traveled with him, escaped with serious injuries.
They were returning from Shimoga to the priest's parish.
“The diocese lost a good pastor and an enthusiastic priest,” said Bishop Henry D’Souza of Bellary.
The funeral will take place on May 24 at Burma Camp, his home parish.
Father Joseph's body is kept in Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences mortuary in Bellary, awaiting the arrival of his sibling, a Missionaries of Charity nun working in Russia.
Sr. Kanthi, who was accompanying the priest, is very critical and is been moved to St. John’s Medical College Hospital in Bangalore, said vicar general Father Chowrappa Yerabai.
Father Joseph was born on May 18, 1976 in Sindhanur Burma Camp in Raichur district. He joined minor seminary in Mysore in 1994 and did his theological studies in St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary in Bangalore and was ordained priest in 2005.
