Bhagyayya Chinnabathini consecrated bishop of Guntur

Guntur Diocese is a suffragan of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Visakhapatnam.

 

Guntur:  The consecration ceremony of Bhagyayya Chinnabathini as the new bishop of Guntur was held yesterday afternoon at a specially erected venue close to the Bishop’s House.

The new bishop was taken in a horse drawn chariot in a civic procession from St Mother Teresa’s statue in the central part of Guntur to the venue of the ceremony.

Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio, the Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal, led the consecration Mass along with a number of bishops and over a hundred priests.

Later, the new bishop was felicitated at a civic reception where people from all communities participated. The function ended with a fellowship meal.

Born to Mathennaiah and Therojamma on September 19, 1956, the bishop distinguished himself in studies and holds MA and MEd degrees. As a priest, he had served in various parishes in Andhra Pradesh and also in Germany and England.
