Students promote interfaith harmony in Pakistan

Eid-linked celebrations held a week after Taliban attack on Christian area in Peshawar.

Pakistan:  Minority students held a celebration at a Christian-run high school and college in northwestern Pakistan on Sept. 11 for Muslim students celebrating Eid al-Adha at an event that promoted tolerance and interfaith harmony in the troubled region.

Prayers for all four faiths Islam, Christianity, Sikh and Hinduism, were offered at the event organized by 60 students at St. Elizabeth's High School and College in Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Minority students at the Protestant school extended greetings to their fellow Muslim students and offered them Eid cards.

Muslims in Pakistan mark the annual religious festival of Eid al-Adha, the second of two Muslim holidays celebrated worldwide each year at the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage, on Sept.13.

The Peace Education And Development Foundation supported the event, which was held a week after four Taliban militants attacked a Christian area in the city, killing one Catholic man and wounding four security personnel.

St. Elizabeth's High School and College is under the Church of Pakistan.
