Two held for attack on prayer hall on Odisha

A group of Hindu fundamentalists had attacked prayer hall under construction.

Orissa:  Two people were arrested for attacking a Christian prayer hall on March 6 in the village of Pradhanpada in Kandhamal district in the eastern state of Odisha.

A group of Hindu fundamentalists had attacked prayer hall under construction. Following the attack, the Odisha government deployed 70 police officers in the village.

After Christians lodged a complaint, some leaders of the district administration, civil society organizations and local religious communities have started working towards settling the row.

Kandhamal district had seen widespread anti-Christian violence by Hindu extremists after Left wing rebels, known as Maoists, gunned down a temple priest. At least 100 Christians were murdered and 50,000 displaced in the 2008 violence.
