Mumbai:  Cardinal Oswald Gracias of Mumbai will launch a mobile application to help young people prayerfully spend the lent season that began on Wednesday.

"The App is currently for Android-based devices and is available in the Google Play Store. It connects the user to prayers and services, helps him find a church nearby, pray the Rosary with the Cardinal or participate in Stations of the Cross, a traditional devotion of Lent," said Fr Nigel Barrett, archdiocesan spokesperson.

"It is an initiative to reach out to the Catholic population, especially youth, through a medium they have grown comfortable with."

"In response to Pope Francis's appeal to care for the environment, Cardinal Gracias has launched the Office for Environment. He will introduce Carbon Fast, which contains 40 'earth-saving ways' to fast this Lent," Fr Nigel said.

Meanwhile, St Michael Church in Manickpur,Vasai, is preparing for the Fr Oscar Colaco Memorial Fast Season Speaker Series 2014.
