Cardinal Gracias celebrates Mass for tribal migrants

The theme of the Mass was ‘celebrating God’s inclusive love.'

 

Mumbai:  Nearly 8,000 tribal migrants took part in a holy Mass concelebrated by Cardinal Oswald Gracias for them in Mumbai.

The Mass was held on Oct. 27 at St Teresa’s Church ground in the city.

Besides Cardinal Gracias, Bishop Angelo Gracias, Bishop Savio Fernandes, Bishop John Rodrigues and priests took part in the Mass.

The theme of the Mass was ‘celebrating God’s inclusive love.'

Catholic from Borivli, Andheri, New Mumbai, South Mumbai, Chembur, Bandra and Colaba areas took part in the Mass.

The event was organized under the aegis of Chotanagpur Migrant Tribal Development Network (CMTD), a socio-pastoral Movement.

CMTD originated with a research work on Occupational Health Problem of Live in Domestic workers by Pallavi Vijay Xalxo which was to be submitted to the University of Mumbai.F

r. Jerome D’Souza supported and provided space to interact with migrant workers and also gave various platforms and occasions to understand their living situations.

The event opened the horizon of area of concerns and need for empowerment initiatives for thousands of tribal population hailing from Chhotanagpur irrespective of their caste and faith.

CMTD envisages to bring them together, who are faceless and alienated in Mumbai and is spearheading to bring about effective positive and sustainable changes in their lives.
