After Christians lodged a complaint, some leaders of the district administration, civil society organizations and local religious communities have started working towards settling the row.
Kandhamal district had seen widespread anti-Christian violence by Hindu extremists after Left wing rebels, known as Maoists, gunned down a temple priest. At least 100 Christians were murdered and 50,000 displaced in the 2008 violence.
