Abhaya case: CBI delays response

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sought more time from the Kerala High Court for filing an affidavit in response to the petition filed by Joji Moolekari, chairman, Mother Teresa Peace Foundation, Kottayam.
The petition has sought action against the persons responsible for what it called the manipulation of video recordings of the narco analysis of the three accused—a catholic nun and two priests.
Justice Harun –Ul- Rashid also issued notice to the Centre and State governments on the petition filed by Joji Moolekari, chairman, Mother Teresa Peace Foundation, Kottayam.
The petitioner said the CBI got a narco analysis test conducted on Fathers Thomas Kottoor, Jose Puthrukkayil and Sister Sephy with the assistance of Bangalore Forensic Science Laboratory.
However, the original video records of the test were destroyed and false evidence was created by editing and manipulating video recordings. These manipulated records were later produced before the court.
They pointed out that the High Court had earlier observed that three CDs were edited and manipulated at the FSL. The C-DIT report had corroborated the court’s observation, the petitioner said.
The report had revealed that the video tapes presented for examination were not originals and they were edited versions. It had cited specific examples of editing with the timeline where it had been done, which would imply that the exact points of the cuts would prove crucial in the investigation in the case. The C-DIT team had found edit cuts and dissolves in the video of the narco analysis.
The petitioner said there was an unholy nexus between CBI officials and the persons who conducted the narco analysis.
