VATICAN RADIO
Vatican Radio was inaugurated by Pope Pius XI on Feb. 12, 1931. Guglielmo Marconi, who invented the radio, designed the broadcasting center of the Radio. Jesuits are administering the center from the beginning. Vatican Radio broadcasts in 37 languages to 170 countries. Its programming schedule offers a unique combination of news, current events, music, culture, liturgies, spiritual reflections, etc. But its primary purpose is to put people in touch with the center of the Church and its visible head, the Pope. It instructs with programs that give guidance and clarifications on questions concerning the catholic faith. It also inspires with series on prayer, spirituality, and stories that dramatize the ordinary lives of the extraordinary people. The Indian Section broadcasts in four languages – Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi and English. These transmissions bring the voice of the Roman Pontiff, his teaching, and his blessing to the Indian Subcontinent.
Any person can be a registered listener of the Vatican Radio of the particular language, by a membership. A person with membership benefits much - receives the monthly bulletin, gets the valuable views transmitted, collects pictures of Pope, greeting cards, calendar…etc. Membership is given freely.
