Rights activists concerned over pro-Hindu ideology

Rights activists concerned over pro-Hindu ideology

Urge political parties and state agencies to act against it.

New Delhi:  Rights activists in India have expressed concern over the alleged imposition of a pro-Hindu ideology in the country through acts of terror, intimidation and violence that they say threatens the rule of law and democracy.

Activists from across the country gathered in New Delhi Aug. 9 to discuss the dangers of this pro-Hindu ideology promoted by the right-wing Hindu ultra-nationalist Rashtiya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the failure of political parties and state agencies to act against it.

"I am concerned of the subtle way of terror which is happening in the way of changing the education policy and introducing a uniform civil code. This is more dangerous than the physical violence," A.C. Michael, coordinator of United Christian Forum, told ucanews.com.

Subhash Gatade, a journalist who was one of the speakers at the event, said what is more frightening is that this Hindu ideology "joins faith with terror."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's-led Bharatiya Janata Party is linked with the RSS. Modi is himself a former RSS leader, as are several of his cabinet colleagues.
