Protestant bishops to Meet Modi

Protestant bishops to Meet Modi

The bishops are concerned about their people not being considered for government positions in center and states.

Chennai:  Bishops representing the Church of South India (CSI), Church of North India (CNI), and Mar Thoma Church plan to meet Prime Minister Modi to voice several concerns, including their people not being considered for positions in government and related bodies.

The Communion of Churches in India (CCI), a forum of these three churches, CCI, said this in a statement after a three day conference of bishops held in Chennai. Their minority community has several matters of concern, it said.

“They (bishops) will carry the sentiments of the community in not being considered for positions in government and related bodies, including but not limited to, representations in the Parliament and the State legislatures and the minority commissions in both Centre and the States,” said the statement.

Another consensus to arise out of the conference was the affirmation of the commitment of the Christian community to stand alongside people of all faiths and ideologies in upholding the secular credentials of the country and promoting peace and communal harmony.
